The left pulmonary arterial supply is unusual: one branch arises anteriorly in its normal location, while a second branch takes a posterior course, remaining anterior to the esophagus so that it does not constitute a true pulmonary artery sling, arising more distally from the right or main pulmonary artery and supplying the left lower lobe.
