Imaging findings
An initial CT, performed for chest pain in a patient with an esophageal stent for cancer, showed subtle air outside the stent lumen and some material/air within the stent. A follow-up CT with contrast medium later clearly demonstrated disruption of the esophagus near the stent, with both contrast medium and air extravasating outside the esophageal lumen into the mediastinum. Complications related to the pleural space were also noted.
