Imaging findings
Chest radiograph showed a bilobed structure in the mediastinum consistent with a transesophageal speech prosthesis. Subsequent CT revealed a new prosthesis in the appropriate location and a dislodged, swallowed prosthesis in the lower esophagus, apparently lodged at a previously biopsied esophageal stricture.
Key takeaways
Tracheoesophageal puncture (TEP) speech prostheses can become dislodged and swallowed, potentially lodging at esophageal strictures. Recognition of both the normal appearance and potential complications is important.
