Imaging findings

A chest radiograph showed a very lucent left lung with small vessels and a round lesion containing a fluid level. CT confirmed a hyperlucent left upper lobe with abnormal airways containing debris (bronchoceles), some exhibiting fluid levels. No normal airways were seen entering this area. The left upper lobe bronchus showed atresia of the anterior and apical segments, with only the lingular component present. Subtle disorganized cystic spaces within the affected lung parenchyma suggested features of congenital pulmonary airway malformation. Coronal images clearly depicted the bronchial atresia and the two bronchoceles.
