Areas resembling organizing pneumonia and diffuse alveolar damage are seen, with peribronchial/perilobular consolidation and interstitial edema signs like septal lines, peribronchial cuffs, subpleural edema, and small pleural effusions. Blood smear shows Babesia parasites within red blood cells.
