Osteosclerosis and myocardial fat in tuberous sclerosis
Imaging findings
CT scan of a male patient with tuberous sclerosis complex (TSC) shows extensive, diffuse sclerotic bone lesions (osteosclerosis) involving the calvarium, ribs, and posterior elements of the spine. Minor, asymptomatic focal fatty deposits are also present in the myocardium (at the left ventricular apex and interventricular septum). The lungs were free of cysts.
Key takeaways
Sclerotic bone lesions and myocardial fatty foci are recognized musculoskeletal and cardiac manifestations of tuberous sclerosis complex. They can occur in the absence of pulmonary lymphangioleiomyomatosis (LAM).
