Pulmonary Artery Sarcoma
Imaging findings
CTA shows a large, lobulated, and scalloped filling defect filling the left main pulmonary artery and extending to the pulmonic valve, mimicking a chronic thromboembolism. PET/CT shows modest FDG uptake in the mass. Pathological analysis of the resected specimen confirmed pulmonary artery sarcoma.
Key takeaways
Pulmonary artery sarcoma is a rare, highly malignant vascular tumor that mimics chronic pulmonary embolism. Distinctive features include a lobulated/scalloped border, extension into the RV outflow tract, and enhancement or PET avidity.
